Sadly, earlier this afternoon, (Sat 17th) Gordon slipped quietly and peacefully away to the land of eternal sun and surf, no doubt with a golf club in one hand and a glass of red in the other.
VALE Gordon. God Speed mate.
Our thoughts and condolances are with Annie, Clare and Cam, Anna, and Gordons parents and sisters, Annette, Barbara, Glenda and Judy and extended families.

Please pass on my deepest sympathies to Gordon’s family and all his partners at Interlloy – Gary, Nik, Tony, Russell and all the other wonderful people within the business.
ReplyDeleteI knew Gordon for what seems like just a short time and was hoping that we would meet again for many more years. A true gentleman in every part of his life.
Sorely Missed,

It is with a deep sadness that we have been closely following “Gordon’s Journey” since we were told of his tragic accident.
ReplyDeleteAs Nik’s father I have known Gordon since that tall gangly friendly figure walked into Interlloy’s door so many years ago. Since then I have enjoyed the feeling of paternal pride as the Interlloy dream unfolded into a company which has grown from a backroom into a major national operation held in high regard by its peers and envied by others for the level of service and commitment it offers its customers through a staff who each enjoy being part of the Interlloy family.
While such growth is the result of much hard work by other board members and the concerted and ever enthusiastic team there has to be a navigator. Gordon filled not only that role but also always had a careful hand on the rudder; steering Interlloy to what it has become today.
To have him taken in such tragic circumstances so suddenly from his two families, Annie and the children, his parents and siblings being one and the other Interlloy is doubly hard to bear. To all of you we offer our deepest sympathy. His own family will always have wonderful and loving memories of husband, father, son and brother. The Interlloy family’s legacy is that of holding the dream and carrying it forward as he would have wished.
Gordon it was an honour and privilege to know you and to have had a very tiny part of your dream, at least you left doing what you used to enjoy, farewell.

Not only have we lost one of the most respected people in the steel industry, but for most people that knew him, a good friend.
ReplyDeleteHe was a true gentlemen who showed that age was no barrier and almost made you feel guilty, that if he could be out and about and in such great shape then why shouldn’t he.
He showed there could be a mix between work, family and doing the things that you are passionate about.
I will miss the talks we used to have about his beloved Pies and the training that we were both doing and also that subtle way he used to let me know I was putting on weight.
But most of all I will miss the way he gave us all, someone to inspire to be- Not just work, but life in general.
To Annie, Claire and Anna.
I can’t imagine what you must be going through at the moment, but thank you for sharing Gordon with us.
The imprint that he has left on me & so many others will last forever.

That is very sad news indeed.
ReplyDeleteThe entire Surf Club are saddened by Gordon’s passing and wish his family and friends peace and well being in this difficult time.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do.

Guys. Last night I received, via Peter Golding, the devastating & tragic news regarding Gordon.
ReplyDelete(Gary, thank you for thinking to ask Daniel to let me know)
As I am sure is the case for everyone, I absolutely can't believe it. Reality dawned as I read their blogspot.
Firstly, can you please pass our deepest sympathies to Annie.
Gordon was truly a "great bloke" in every sense of that term, always very professional but always very personal, & great to do business with.
On occasions we got to know Gordon & Annie on a social level when they joined us on some of the One Steel VIP customer weekends.
They were a fun & loving, and fun-loving, couple who were terrific to be with.
I cannot imagine Annie's grief.
Secondly, my sincere condolences to all of you at Interlloy. I know how close you all are & how much you helped each other. Our thoughts are with you all.
Kindest regards, Graeme Downing

Dear Gary,
The shock waves from this senseless tragedy is felt by all throughout the steel industry.
I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to Gordon's family.I'm sorry I'm unable to send a blog as I do not know how to use it.
May they have courage at this very sad time and may Gordon's soul be in peace.
I feel fortunate to have met Gordon several times and he has always impressed me as one of the true gentlemen of our industry.
You must all be reeling at present yet, I know that the Interlloy Family will be the pillar of strength for his family and colleagues.
Please remember to be kind to yourselves as well.
My heartfelt wishes to all,
Michelle Neumann.
Deeply saddened and shaken to hear about Gordon – I did not meet him too often but my memories will be of a positive, cheerful, insightful and a “full of life “ person – must be a hammer blow for you all at Interlloy and for his family – well – what an incredibly difficult period for them. We have all felt Gordon’s passing in our office here – David, Cara, Gail --- and we all pass on our deepest sympathies to his family and his closest friends at Interlloy.

This was indeed tragic news and we here at JFE-Shoji are deeply shocked and sadden by it.
ReplyDeleteIt was only one month ago that I visited Gordon as you know to introduce him to my overseas visitors. As always Gordon was his usual charming self - the perfect gentleman (for me that was his great trade mark) and again gave us his time as he always did.
In addition to his commercial astuteness & wisdom Gordon will well be remembered as one of the extremely nice people in this rough and tough steel industry of ours and his passing will leave us all the poorer.
Please pass-on to your colleagues and Gordon's family the condolences of JFE-Shoji Trade Australia P/L.
